Informational Tidbit

Look your best for your session, (and every day) with these simple tips and tricks!

Hydrate – in the weeks before your session, be sure to drink plenty of water. If you’re feeling
thirsty you are already in the early stages of dehydration, which is not healthy and it can also
leave visible signs like dry, dull skin. It can also leave you feeling sluggish. So be sure to
drink at least eight glasses of water each day. If this seems like a drag, flavor a water bottle or
pitcher with slices of lemon, cucumber and mint leaves, or strawberries. This makes a fresh
pick-me-up that you can enjoy any time of day.

Rest – In today’s busy lifestyle, it’s hard to get a full eight hours of sleep. Whether you
are a busy bride-to-be, senior, mother or mother-to-be, there’s always one more thing you
would like to squeeze in before you go to bed. But fatigue is not good for us emotionally or
physically. It can lead to stress and a variety of health problems. To ensure that you get the
proper amount of sleep each night, set an alarm on your phone for a half hour before you want
to go to bed. Create a little pre-bed ritual that you enjoy so you will want to wind down and get
to bed on time. Whether it’s a beauty routine, a few minutes of reading or meditation, listening
to your favorite band or a quiet walk, find a way to end your day peacefully and then climb into
bed for a full eight hours of rest. This will not only help you feel more energized, but you will
find that you look much more alert and revitalized.

Moisturize – Your skin loses moisture easily. In the winter the air is dryer and in the summer
you can lose it through sweating and spending time in the water. Be sure to moisturize after
you shower, and use a sunscreen with an SPF of 15 or more to keep your skin looking and
feeling soft, firm and healthy. This might not seem important, but it can give you a nice glow
for your session, and every day.

Smile from Within – We have all seen pictures where the subject is “wearing” a smile. These
fake smiles don’t look right, and they can ruin an otherwise beautiful image. During your
session, and every day, when you are posing for a picture, try to think of something that truly
brings you joy and your smile will really shine. This creates a more natural, beautiful look that
will flatter your face and create a relaxed, happy vibe.

By incorporating these simple habits into your daily routine, you can look your best for your
portrait session, and every day!

Featured Vendor - Dover & Madden

Thank you, Vicki for the opportunity to photograph your beautiful products. They are little pieces of art! Thank you also for gifting each of the little buds from the product session their very own hat from dover & madden. It was a wonderful experience collaborating with you.

Thank you
Denise

Tell us a little bit about you?

My name is Vicki, I live in Melbourne, Australia. I love knitting, crocheting, cooking, over seas travel, AFL Football, peanut butter, cups of tea, soy lattes and the TV show Spooks.

how long have you been making little knits for little people?

It all started way back when my sister had her first bud nearly 7 years ago... a friend of hers had sent her a very flash baby hat from an up market boutique in New York... Ava out grew the hat, and my sister asked me if I could replicate it in some shape or form... I did to my own specifications. My sister loved it, and it all started from there...I don't think I've stopped knitting hats since. I started selling to friends and just looked at it as a bit of a hobby until I discovered ETSY... up til then I had been working under my own name and it's only been in the last 18 months that dover & madden in it's official capacity came about.

how would you describe your style

The style of dover & madden is a little bit vintage and a little bit retro with a touch of whimsy and bright bright colors. I think there is nothing cuter than bubs in knits... rugged up as warm as toast

hopes for future business & life

I have no grand plans... I'm not a great planner, never was never will be. I don't see dover & madden getting much bigger and I don't think I want it to be. I am looking probably later this year to start selling my own patterns that I have designed, so that's big for me. I want to do a bit more traveling in the next few years. New Zealand is on the radar this year and I really ned to see my own country, so there you go that's a plan... but that's it really. Just live life to the best I can, be healthy and happy and hopefully in return I'll live to be a ripe old age!!

Thank you to all our little knit models!

baby brain

Believe it or not I think about photography 24/7. I think about how I can excel in my craft, how I can make the experience more memorable and what are somethings you may want as a client.

I have an idea and I wanted to see what you think. I want to make and gift a baby log for my Moms. The baby log would cover things such as eating, the ins/outs, sleeping and a place to make notes in ref to baby's schedule or milestones. There would also be a spot for medications, tooth chart, and basic information for the babysitter to fill out to keep everyone in the know.

Would it be something that would interest you as a Mom to receive this?
If so what else would you like included in the baby log?
What size would be too small?
What size would be too big?

Before I go have the baby journals printed up. I wanted to see if there was a need for them. If there is. I would love to gift them to my Moms.

I know for me, I had some serious baby brain, especially when we had the twins. I couldn't tell you what day it was, much less, if I had taken a shower or brushed my teeth. I know eewww dragon breath. I promise, I brush my teeth now but I still might not know what day it is. Hmm that give me an idea. I'll even add a mom page in there too ;)

Looking forward to hearing what you think!

much love

Ostrich ALERT!!!!

I can't believe that we are going to be leaving our beautiful little island of Okinawa

Just thinking that in a couple of weeks TMO ( the military movers) will be here to pack us out is too overwhelming. Normally, I'm really great about getting ready for a move. I have a system six months months out we purge the house, 3 months out we purge again and then the last 3 months we set aside what will go with the first shipment and then the last shipment is the larger household goods. Not this time nope. Last night, I was at Jacke's house for a Army Wives season premier pizza party. I could so relate to Roxy last night. I died laughing when she was in the parking lot with a cart full of groceries. I was like that is so me right now... head in the sand like an ostrich in denial.

Keep in mind this isn't my first rodeo like Roxy. I have been a military spouse now for over 15 years but for some reason this move has been a challenge. I'm having a hard time adjusting to the thought of moving away from my close friends. We usually move every two years but this time we have been at one location for 3 1/2 years. Which is a lifetime in military time. I've made some amazing friends from other branches of the military and close connections with friends who are local to Okinawa. I started my photography journey here. There has been so many blessings associated to this tour that I'm not ready for the change.

Of course, with the lifestyle we live, change is a given. We arrive at a new duty station and within a few weeks our houses look like we have lived there forever, we make friendships quickly but they last for a lifetime, we see places in the world only people dream about going to but we get to live there for years.

Am I blessed YES!
Am I excited about our new journey YES!
Will I miss my friends YES
Will I get house ready for PCS.... yes =/

For now, I'll wish for PCS fairies.

much love,
Denise
